Personal Updates

Uh… I realize I didn’t upload a newsletter last Friday 😭 my bad.

Things have been stressful in terms of moving and setting up two spaces at the same time. WHILE doing events, planning a birthday thing and planning a visit to your family in AZ.

I fear I have been neglecting myself a little bit 😅 If I told you I was at my limits like 3000 times in the past 2 months would you believe me?

Timeline??

Beginning of July we secure our apartment and my little studio space. Moving from one unit in the complex isn’t that bad but when you start off with just two people, ie me and my husband, it becomes overwhelming. I’m glad we had help from family and friends but the first round of it was rough. Moving things from our apartment to the studio space wasn’t bad but sourcing oversized furniture and using our fucked up car to transport was bad. Especially when it came to a large, very nice heavy hardwood, cut in half work table…. Between me and my husband the first round was bad. Thank god our friends came to help for the second half. The lady we bought it from said that the table top used to be some flooring in a building in Chinatown so… we brought it back to it’s home 🙂‍↕️

I also helped my friends move from their place the last day of July so… I wasn’t necessarily done moving but I was down to help friends. Some how that was the most tranquil move I’ve ever participated in… because it wasn’t me that was moving for once 😂

The last week of July/the 1st of August I had events!

I’m so happy I was able to do these events 🥺 I’m eternally grateful for my LADS friends and Kawaii market friends for inviting me! hehe… I had a great time.

Both times though leaving for the events we had insane car issues. Which wasn’t great for my time sensitive/fear of failure OCD. The first event was fine but the car kept jerking forward and I was wearing a nurse outfit with a high collar. Paired with my insane chronic car sickness and being semi choked every 15 minutes wasn’t great 😅. So by the time the second event came by I was spiraling and constantly thinking about the car. Stressed and in a rush we went to grab my supplies from the studio… only for the battery to die. We had to take the battery back to the house to charge it. WE MADE IT TO THE EVENT!!!!! YAYAYAYAYYYYYYYYY… but with like less than 20 minutes to set up and I was spiraling harder than I thought I would. I hate that I do that but I still had a lot of fun after settling down for a bit. 🥲

IMMEDIATELY after my last event on the 1st of August I was tasked a few days before to plan something for my mother-in-law’s birthday. All I knew she wanted was to get a facial. I booked it for that Sunday as per what they wanted. BUT that’s all I knew… I didn’t know what else we were going to do so I ask my husband who was under the impression he had told me the idea but um… I knew nothing. So eventually we get to their house that’s an hour away from Seattle…….. my time sensitivity and fear of failure and lateness is slowly creeping because we needed to go to RENTON. So I was nudging nicely for us to get a move on. It wasn’t far but we have kids in tow and the mass amounts of traffic coming back from Lake Steven’s wasn’t helping… so I needed to quickly figure out where in Renton the husbands and kids to go to while we did our facials. I feared we were going to be super late and risk becoming a no-show and have to pay $400 for not making it because of our shitty car and how unplanned the rest of the day was. I did suggest IKEA but why is it wrong to want meatballs???

Thankfully… by the grace of whatever… the facial place was by a park and a bunch of other things so they can hang out while we do our thing. It was the least relaxing facial I’ve ever had in my life. Not because of the spa or esthetician but because of the insane pressure of not failing or fucking up someone’s birthday. I can see why my Sister-in-law is always so stressed planning a billion things without much help 🫩. My MIL understood and said that she also has to do the same nudging to get people going so she affirmed that I wasn’t being insane. Even though I felt reallllllllllyyyyyyyy bananas.

After all of that I had exactly 4 days of rest to decompress and prepare myself for whatever my family has for me.

On the 7th we left for Phoenix. I was never really good at dealing with the heat even when I grew up and lived most of my life there. When we got off the plane I could feeeeellll it 🫠 going to get our rental car I was melting… Literally like

I hate the heat. It’s dry but it destroys my hair and my will to live 🫩 for the first two nights we were hanging out with friends which was fun.

Upon arriving my to my parents house they had a lot planned for us… my week of “break and rest” was a week of nonstop socializing. Most of the rest I got was from secluding myself to the guest room for a bit and then coming back out.

Day 1 at my parents we were taken to hang out with everyone in Tempe. My parents live in the west valley… past Phoenix. We had bbq which was fine. Met my cousin’s new boyfriend who was a huge improvement from her ex husband. We helped my grandma with a few bills and stuff and was on our way home at like 9pm. We were immediately swept up into a monsoon storm. It was raining so hard on the freeway that we had to slow down and drive at 15mph to avoid hitting anyone or hydroplaning. It was so windy the rain was coming at us in sheets of water… eventually we got to the west side and was hit with a haboob.

A haboob is a gigantic dust storm that looks like the end times have arrived. 😂 Soooo not only was our rental car super wet it was covered in mud. We also needed to travel super slow to get back home. We got home around 11:30pm so I was tired.

If you watched my story during the 9th you would see how crazy it was.

Our power went out too at the house and my dad was freaking out. He had us stay at a hotel for the night since the house wouldn’t have power until like… 7am. But it came on at like 1:15 am 😂 I didn’t want to go driving again after just getting home in the storm.

For the rest of the time we were there we had back to back social interactions with everyone in my family. So like 9 straight days of socializing. My husband thought it was a good idea to go to a little dj party in cap hill the day we came back at 9pm. Trust that I went home after an hour and was out cold as soon as I laid in bed.

So now I’m still in the process of decompressing and being a hella hermit 🥲

Short and sweet mini Arizona segments

What we watched:

The second day we watched The Odyssey. WHICH was like almost 3 hours long and made me kind of upset that it wasn’t the same as the book and was just another hyper violent action movie 😂 I was definitely watching it though but it became more like me hyper-analyzing it the whole time. all in all 6/10

What we ate/drank:
  • A lot of Mexican food. We ate at 4 different restaurants and they were all really good. Am I the only one that really just likes a super wet enchilada though?

  • My parents wanted us to try a new Italian place called Time Square? I thought it was good but like… this might sound funny or kind of weird that I prefer going to Oregano’s more? I would like a place that has AYCE spaghetti though so I wouldn’t take my ratings to heart since I think I’m biased.

  • We went to one of our favorite west valley coffee places. Futuro -downtown phx. My husband is addicted to caffeine so we go to a lot of coffee places when we get the chance. I always get tea though since I don’t drink coffee anymore.

  • Ate with my cousin’s in Phoenix. We went to Sushi Vibe - On camelback rd. It was okay. I haven’t been there in so long that the Lou Malnati’s I used to go to is gone.

What activities we did:
  • Went to Buc-ee’s and it was underwhelming but the pie cups are good. It was like… every other gas station but with a HomeGoods in it. Arizona already has QT so I don’t really see the appeal (besides the pie cups). It’s funny to be kind of gawked at by middle age men… simply because I was taller than them though 😂 the two times we went was the same experience.

  • Went to The Gem Studio in Gilbert to do a silversmith work shop. It was a lot of fun 🙂‍↕️ I already have experience in jewelry making but I’ve only worked with copper so it was fun to make things in something I’ll actually wear. Plus I knew my husband wanted to get into making his own little rings so it was a good time.

I’ve been pretty burnt out as of late but I’m taking on some more projects and doing another event next month. So I’m quite excited about that.

I’m trying to get my booth set up just right since the last couple times I was not as prepared as I wanted to be… So I will have to lock in and get my shit together so that I can do more tattoos… AND make more friends 🙂‍↕️

Do you run a market/host events or know of an event you would like me to participate in??? Pls fill out my little recommendation form down here!
